Review Perfect. -- Tim Whitaker, The Philadelphia Weekly This superb jam band composed of very young but amazingly versatile players had the joyous crowd dancing [the whole night]. -- Simon Glickman, Hits Magazine [Townhall has] arrangements spiced [with]...rockin ...licks...free jazz improvisations...Memphis style brass...reggae beats and intoxicated New Orleans horns. -- Jonathan Takiff, The Philadelphia Daily News Product Description Townhall's debut album, Live At The Point is a two disc, 18-track LP that was recorded on June 30th, 2001 at The Point in Bryn Mawr, PA, in front of the venue’s largest sell-out crowd ever. About the Artist “Townhall is a unique band with a unique musical vision. At a time when most new rock bands adhere to lifeless trends, Townhall breathes new life into the singer-songwriter genre with interesting and eclectic twists and turns.” --Bruce Warren, Program Director, WXPN, 88.5 In their first year as a band, Townhall played 175 shows, starting their touring career just three months after their first gig. They have already performed with and won the respect of artists such as The Wailers, Moe, Pete Yorn, Deep Banana Blackout, G-Love, Afroman, Guided By Voices and The Dixie Hummingbirds. Townhall has experience that includes Rock, Reggae, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Folk and Latin and are influenced by great songwriters and exceptional musicians such as Bob Marley, The Band, Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis just to name a few. Townhall brings together a diverse musical background and melded these sounds into something entirely new. Townhall masters every instrument they play. Smidt exchanges his flute for a harmonica, Skiles trades his guitar for a flugelhorn, Stanford unplugs his bass and steps behind the congas: just watching them switch can be dizzying, but the sound proves their skill to be as striking as their versatility. All five members of Townhall were jazz majors when they met at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. With the sole exception of Smidt, who hails from Los Angeles, Townhall is homegrown in Philadelphia, PA. Each member of the band has played music from a very young age and honed his skills independently and with different ensembles and distinguished musicians. What started as frequent jam sessions quickly turned into a musical bond that would be the foundation for Townhall. They all had a common goal, to make “good music” that didn’t sound like anything else. Music lovers everywhere immediately embraced the unique sound of Townhall, starting what would become a vast and loyal fan base that continues to grow. “The soul, passion and energy given by your performance is what music creating is all about...there was nothing but the feeling of positive energy and happiness. thank you. thank you for having that soul and sharing it with those who are willing to be open to it.” Angela, Media, PA (fan) “Just when you think everything is tired and no one can do anything new, a band comes along and re-ignites the whole thing.” -- Jim Sutcliffe, Electric Factory Concerts/Clear Channel Entertainment
