The St. Francis Camino: A Spiritual Walking Pilgrimage from Assisi to Rome

To walk from Assisi to Rome is to walk through the heart of the Franciscan story. The St. Francis Camino — also known as the Way of St. Francis — traces a 280-kilometer pilgrimage through the hills and valleys of central Italy, following in the footsteps of the poverello of Assisi. From his birthplace to the city of the martyrs and popes, this path invites pilgrims into both a physical and spiritual journey. This updated second edition is more than a trail manual. It is a Franciscan companion for the road. With a foreword by Archbishop Paolo Giulietti of Lucca, the book offers: • Essays on Franciscan spirituality • Daily reflections for each stage of the walk • Prayers and writings of St. Francis and the early biographers • Traditional Catholic and Franciscan prayers for before, during, and after the pilgrimage Divided into fourteen stages, the route is presented clearly and concisely. For each day you will find: • Distance, elevation gain and loss, terrain, and estimated duration • A brief narrative description of the route • Notes and practical tips for walking in Italy • Franciscan and spiritual sites along the way • An aerial map and elevation profile Practical guidance is included for preparing your journey — from packing suggestions and travel logistics to setting up GPX tracks and obtaining the Pilgrim’s Passport and Testimonium. Above all, this book is written to accompany you with spiritual wisdom. The St. Francis Camino is not another long-distance hike. It is a pilgrimage of detachment, simplicity, and joyful surrender. Step by step, it is a journey into the heart of the spirituality of St Francis, and the truth of the Gospel.
